NIKISZOWIEC ESTATE

Nikiszowiec is the name of a mining settlement located in the eastern part of Katowice. The complex is notable for its unusual architecture – the three-storey brick buildings were built in the shape of a quadrangle with internal utility courtyards. One of the buildings of this unusual estate houses the City Ethnology Department of the Katowice History Museum.

 


THE CASTLE IN BĘDZIN

A Gothic castle destroyed by the Swedes and restored in the mid-20th century. One of the towers is an excellent vantage point offering a view of the stunning surroundings. The building now houses the Zagłębie Museum, which provides an insight into the history of both the castle and the city as a whole.

SILESIAN PARK AND THE ELKA CABLE RAILWAY

An oasis of greenery located in the most industrialised region of Poland – on the border of Chorzów, Katowice and Siemianowice Śląskie. n ideal choice for a walk, rollerblading or a short break. The park can be admired from the ‘Elka’ cable railway, with a route of more than 2 km.

SCHÖN PALACE MUSEUM IN SOSNOWIEC

Schön Palace is home to the Sosnowiec Museum and the Representative Hall of the Civil Registry Office. In the museum's extensive collections, we can see collections of photographs, drawings, paintings and glass. The exhibition, the only one of its kind in Poland, showcases the achievements of Polish glassmaking and design.

 


GRÓDEK PARK IN JAWORZNO

The Gródek Park, and from 2019. the Arboretum in Jaworzno is a unique site with stunning views. The entire complex, which has been dubbed the Polish Maldives thanks to its turquoise lakes and piers with gazebos, has a unique charm. The post-mining area has acquired a completely new, naturally beautiful face.

THE CITY PALM HOUSE IN GLIWICE

The Palm House in Gliwice is a modern facility with an area of 2,000 square metres. The tallest building, which houses the palm trees, is a whopping 22 metres high. In thematic pavilions, we can admire exotic plants and succulents, and until recently aquaria with ecosystems from various parts of the world.

 


SPODEK SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT HALL

Katowice's Spodek is a symbol of Katowice and one of the most recognisable buildings in Poland. This gem of modernist architecture has been attracting music and sports fans from all over Europe for 40 years. The building is located in the very centre of the city and it is impossible to pass by it indifferently.

THE SILESIAN MUSEUM

Situated in an area linked to mining, the museum is now a cultural mine. Unusual collections and exhibitions can be seen 14 metres underground. And for those interested in looking at Katowice from a different perspective, a 40-metre-high observation tower is available.
